Dr. Daniela Peguero

Daniela (Dani) Peguero is an environmental engineer with a passion for sustainable solutions to global waste challenges. She specializes in organic waste treatment using black soldier flies as a tool for resource recovery and circular economy implementation. Currently, she is a postdoctoral researcher at SANDEC-Eawag, where she is part of the Solid Waste Management Group. Her work centers on an applied project that promotes the adoption of BSFL farming in Uganda and Malawi. This project supports the development of practical and scalable solutions, that enable communities to transform waste into valuable byproducts including protein-rich animal feed and nutrient-rich soil amendments.
 In addition to her research, she facilitates a growing community of practice by moderating a WhatsApp-based professional group. This platform fosters collaboration, encourages knowledge exchange, and helps build connections among practitioners working with BSFL technology across diverse regions.Outside of research, she is passionate about movement and creativity. She enjoys practicing yoga and pole dancing, both of which offer her balance and inspiration. Through her work-related travels, she he takes great joy in discovering new places and learning from the people and traditions she encounters around the world.
