Insects360 photography competition

“The snoots and boots that stole my heart” by Emilia has been selected as the winning entry in the Insects360 photography competition! We would like to thank all the participants for their amazing submissions and also our judge, the celebrated insect portraitist Thorben Danke, who reviewed all submissions and selected the winning photo. Insects360 drawing competition
Thank you to everyone who took part in the Insects360 Drawing Competition! We originally planned to award three prizes in two age groups: participants under 13 and 13 and above. However, due to a low number of submissions from participants aged 13 and above, we adapted the competition format.
Instead, we awarded prizes based on two categories: Fantastic and Realistic drawings – regardless of age.
A huge thank you to our judge, Heather Andrews, who carefully reviewed all the entries and selected the standout artworks.
Winners (Fantastic drawings)
1st Prize: “Der Funkelnde Nachtwanderer” by Lemar
Lemar’s description of his work: “Der Name Luminara Crystails unterstreicht das magische Aussehen des Insekts. Luminara bedeutet Licht und deutet auf Biolumineszenz hin, während Crystails an Kristall erinnert, was auf eine funkelnde Erscheinung hinweist. Der „Funkelnde Nachtwanderer" beschreibt ein elegantes, nachts aktives insekt. (The name Luminara Crystails emphasizes the magical appearance of the insect. Luminara means light and indicates bioluminescence, while Crystails is reminiscent of crystal, indicating a sparkling appearance. The “sparkling night wanderer” describes an elegant insect that is active at night.)”
2nd Prize: “Düsenantrieb Super Ameise” by Levi
Levi’s description of his work: “Die Ameise hat einen Bohrer, damit sie schneller graben kann und Lampen, damit sie im Dunkeln sieht. Der Düsenantrieb macht sie extrem schnell und mit den Raupen kommt sie überall hoch. Die Zähne sind so stark wie vom T-Rex.”
3rd Prize: “Supermeise” by Marius
Marius’s description of his work: “Die Superameise hat einen superstarken Bohrer und Düsenantrieb, damit sie schnell Gänge bohren kann. Sie hat Solarpanels auf dem Rücken für die Energie und kann sich mit der Raupe schnell fortbewegen.”
Winners (Realistic drawings)
1st Prize: “The Panda Ant” by Federico
Federico’s description of his work: “The Panda Ant is not really an ant, but it looks like one, and it’s super fuzzy! It’s black and white, and when you see it, you might think, “Wow, that’s a cute little animal!” But guess what? If you touch it, it can sting you! Panda Ants are like the ninjas of the bug world.”
2nd Prize: “Blue Butterfly” by Mario.
Marior’s description of his work: “Hi! My drawing and little research are all about blue butterflies! I learned where they come from and I talk about the two most special ones. I really hope you like what I made, because I had so much fun doing it! Thank you!”
3rd Prize: “Trilobite beetle” by Mato
Mato's description of his work: “This is a trilobite Beatle. an interesting fact about this is that female trilobite beetle keeps their larval form throughout life. They are found in tropical Forest in India and South East Asia.”
