Dr. Aphrodite Kantsa

"Biologist and pollination ecologist with a strong interest in sensory ecology. My main research focus is to find out how insects perceive flowers through vision and olfaction, and what kind of information flowers communicate to their visitors.
My work combines lab and field approaches—from behavioral experiments and untargeted metabolomics to colorimetric and network analyses—supported by a wide range of statistical methods. I'm especially drawn to complex systems and to the challenge of interpreting the multisensory cues that structure ecological interactions.
Whether it's developing a new research idea, designing an experiment, or baking an orange pie, I thrive on creating things that didn't exist before.
Science communication is another passion — and I'm always happy to share stories from the field (especially when asked nicely).
